About

The KhoiSan say:

“A dream is not a dream, until it is the dream of the community.”

And there is the phrase:

“With knowledge comes the responsibility of sharing it.”

The uBuntu Civics Academy has played a great role in raising consciousness for and in advancing uBuntu for many years. The establishment of the uBuntu Civics Academy School as a place that people could go to to learn about uBuntu in all of its richness and beauty and to bring uBuntu to the hearts and the minds of as many people as possible developed organically from these efforts. We seek to provide some answers to the following common, and not so common questions about uBuntu:

What is uBuntu?

Where does it come from?

How does it work?  In the different spheres of society?

What are some of the core aspects of uBuntu?

How do we recognize uBuntu in society?

How does uBuntu speak to social cohesion, our national identity, our common humanity, human dignity, human rights, personal and social transformation?

How can uBuntu help us to address our common challenges?

How can uBuntu help in how we treat nature and the environment?

How can we know our self and reach our highest potential through uBuntu?

How can we help uBuntu grow and flourish?

Having accepted the torch of uBuntu from our ancestors, we are growing a New Generation of uBuntu Keepers through the inspiration and education of uBuntu.

The uBuntu Civics Academy is in the final stage of acquiring its QCTO/SETA uBuntu education and training service provider accreditation.

uBuntu is studied extensively at university level and through a variety of educational institutions. We are also aware of many uBuntu projects and programs in society, but to our knowledge, the uBuntu Civics Academy is unique when it comes to our Purpose, Mission, and Vision… An uBuntu Academy that exists for the special purpose to bring uBuntu to civil society.

Founder

Anna-Mari Pieterse is well known for her passion for uBuntu and her many years of relentless efforts when it comes to making uBuntu alive.

Since she became the Country Coordinator for Humanity’s Team South Africa and a member of the Humanity’s Team Worldwide Core Team in 2005, Anna-Mari wanted to understand what Oneness (the core principle of Humanity’s Team) and being human meant through the mirror of the African Worldview and uBuntu and to share it with the world. .  Anna-Mari achieved much in taking uBuntu to the global stage through her work in Humanity’s Team.

uBuntu has been her full-time occupation for the past almost twenty years that progressed naturally into the birth of the uBuntu Civics Academy that was established to be a beacon for uBuntu and a place for members of society to go to, to learn about uBuntu.

“I regard it as my honor and responsibility to be passing on the dream of the Great Mother.  It is the African Dream and humanity’s dream ... and we all need to know our common dream, right? uBuntu. I am because we are.”
